Snekkerivarsen prioritizes quality materials for the renovation of detached houses

The well-known Instagram profile Øystein Ivarsen, under the name Snekkerivarsen, has been renovating a detached house on his own for the past six months. Ivarsen is keen to do solid work, and wants to use quality materials throughout the construction project. He has therefore chosen to use Dana Lim's products for all gluing and jointing tasks.

The master builder from Bjørnafjorden outside Bergen is one of several craftsmen who share content from their working day on Instagram. With his twelve thousand followers, Ivarsen wants to spread inspiration and joy for the craft he is passionate about. For the past six months, he has been working on his biggest project to date as his own limited company.

The renovation of the old detached house in Tertnes outside Bergen has involved replacing the facade cladding, adding insulation, and changing windows and interior cladding. Many working hours have been invested both outdoors and indoors in the changing weather of Western Norway.

The renovation requires a wide range of adhesives and sealants

Ivarsen holds both a journeyman's certificate in carpentry and a subsequent master's certificate from a technical college to become a master builder. This means he has the skills to carry out most of the renovation work himself. When that is the case, it is important to have good equipment of high quality.

"For this project, both the customer and I have been focused on choosing quality products and good materials to achieve the best possible result. Among other things, it is important to have good sealing products that ensure good durability and insulating properties," says Ivarsen.

For the project, Dana Lim has delivered all adhesive and jointing products. Ivarsen is impressed by the wide product range of the Nordic manufacturer.

"Dana Lim has a very broad range of adhesives and jointing products of high quality with different properties that I have used throughout this project. Renovating an entire house requires many different jointing and gluing jobs. Everything from sealing windows and reinforcing structures, to gluing subfloors, skirtings and all frames. It is a great advantage to be able to relate to one manufacturer of adhesives and sealants that covers all possible tasks and guarantees a solid and durable result," says Ivarsen.

Avoid creaking on the floor

Large amounts of chipboard have been installed on the floor. Ivarsen has a simple piece of advice for avoiding creaking in the floor:

"Do not skimp on the adhesive. Too little adhesive can lead to movement in the subfloor. It is an annoying complaint and requires a lot of work to fix. My advice is to use a generous amount of a good adhesive type. I have used Dana Lim's construction adhesive 293, which is an extra strong mounting adhesive particularly well suited for this type of task. In addition, the adhesive is moisture, temperature and ageing resistant, which is practical on the West Coast with large weather variations."

The renovation of the detached house is almost complete, and Ivarsen thinks it has been an exciting and demanding job with completely new challenges.

"Renovating a detached house is a big piece of work, but it has been a fun and demanding process at the same time. The weather on the West Coast does not always play along, so it is very much about planning as far as possible, as well as seeing solutions rather than problems. I am very happy with the result," concludes Ivarsen.
